Massive Damage is a Year One Labs’ portfolio company, founded by Ken Seto and Garry Seto. The company has just released their iOS game, Please Stay Calm on the U.S. App Store. They’ve been beta testing it with players in Canada for about a month, and now they’re ready for prime time.
Please Stay Calm is a location-based, social game based on a zombie apocalypse. I’ve been playing since the beginning – it’s fun, challenging, beautifully designed and incorporates a number of location elements that are new and interesting. Ken and Garry are really thinking about how location can play an interesting and unique role in gaming, and there’s a lot more to come from these guys.

It’s great to see them get their game launched to a big, big audience. Now the fun really begins as they go from game designers to company builders. They won’t stop being game designers of course, but the ultimate goal of Massive Damage is to build a massive game company. It’s going to be fun to watch people’s reactions on a large scale, watch as players come in, try the game out, explore and interact. (Plus, I’m at level 25 or so, and fairly safe from all the duelling troublemakers!) It’s going to be great to watch Ken and Garry (and the entire Massive Damage team) continue to push the envelope with their game, figure out what works (and doesn’t) and build a kick ass company.
Ken and Garry — congratulations on getting to this point. You know the real work begins now, and I know you guys will do a great job. And I’m there, along with the entire Year One Labs team, to support you.
