At Year One Labs we’re not waiting around for startup opportunities to come to us — we’re actively out there looking for them. In some cases that means attracting individual people, putting them together, and creating new teams & startups. That’s what we’re doing right now with a project that we’d like to see emerge out of Year One Labs.

I can’t provide a lot of details publicly, but we’re looking for hardcore developers with Python experience that want to start and own their own company (inside Year One Labs.) The choice of Python is for a specific reason. The project is a B2B app targeting SMBs. The target market is much more specific than that, and I’ll happily share that with prospective founders.

It’s important to note that irrespective of where the idea comes from, the founders we bring in will own the company. It will be their baby. The founders will need to steer the ship, work like crazy, iterate and figure things out. The Year One Labs team will be there to provide hands-on help and guidance, just like we’re doing for every other investment.

We’re happy to bring someone in from outside Montreal – but they have to be willing to move to Montreal and work with us for up to 12 months.
